Dual Media Filter (DMF)
The Dual Media Filter (DMF) is an advanced water filtration unit designed with two layers of filter media – typically anthracite coal and fine sand. This dual layer provides higher dirt-holding capacity and more efficient removal of suspended solids, turbidity, and organic matter compared to single-media filters.

Functionality
Raw water passes through a layer of anthracite (top) and then through fine sand (bottom).
- The anthracite layer traps larger particles and suspended solids.
- The sand layer filters finer impurities and turbidity.
This combination allows for deeper bed filtration, longer filter runs, and reduced frequency of backwashing. When the filter media is clogged, a reverse flow of water (backwash) is used to clean the filter, restoring efficiency.
